W celu rozpoczęcia procesu cięcia lub żłobienia należy elektrodę utrzymywać w kontakcie z przedmiotem przez ok. 2 ÷ 3 s, po czym następuje samoczynne zajarzenie łuku.
Cięcie
Po zajarzeniu łuku, elektrodę należy odchylić od pionu o kąt 15 ÷ 30º w kierunku przeciwnym do kierunku cięcia i wykonywać szybkie ruchy skokowe czołem elektrody stykającym się z przedmiotem ciętym.
Technika żłobienia
Po zajarzeniu łuku elektrodę należy nachylić pod kątem 15 ÷ 30º do przedmiotu w kierunku przeciwnym do kierunku żłobienia i szybko przesuwać, utrzymując cały czas kontakt elektrody z przedmiotem.
